Alice Waters is a chef, author, and the proprietor of Chez Panisse restaurant and a passionate advocate for a food economy that is “good, clean, and fair.” In 1996, she founded the Chez Panisse Foundation to support educational programs that use food to nurture, educate, and empower youth. She created the Edible Schoolyard at Berkeley’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Middle School, comprised of a one-acre garden, an adjacent kitchen-classroom, and an “eco-gastronomic” curriculum.
