Earth Day Farm Field Trip at Grant Elementary

Petaluma Grant ElementaryFifth-grade teacher Leslie Ihrig of Grant Elementary School, a public school in Petaluma, California, combined Nourish with a farm field trip as part of Earth Day activities for her 26 students. To start the day, she screened Nourish to open a conversation about food choices. The class discussed topics like buying from local producers and eating healthy.

“The kids were very engaged with the film, because it is so well done and youthful,” said Ihrig. “It fit well into my coursework, because it was accessible to the kids and very easy to get them to make connections to their own eating habits.”

The class then took a field trip to Tara Firma Farms in Petaluma. Tara Firma is a family-owned farm dedicated to pasture-raised and organic practices. “The students loved it. They got to hold real fresh eggs (still warm) and check out the gardens and livestock.”
