Nourish Community Screening in Weston, Connecticut

A Nourish screening was held at the Weston Public Library as part of an event hosted by Land’s Sake Farm, the Community Green Team, Weston Public Schools, Weston PTO, and Weston Community Children’s Association. The film set the stage for a conversation about food literacy, school food, and the role that parents play in teaching children about food. Following the screening there was a panel of speakers which included the Director of Food Services from the public school, the Director of Education Programming at a local farm, and a community parent passionate about teaching her children about food and seasonal eating.

In addition to the film and panel discussion, local food experts tabled in the entrance to the screening room. There was a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) sign-up, a children’s cookbook author, a local food purveyor, and a seafood awareness campaign. These groups offered participants constructive ideas for bringing the message of Nourish into their daily lives. The evening truly embodied the theme of “food + community.”

The Weston gathering marked the first time that many of the hosting groups had worked together. To reach an even larger audience, organizers plan to re-broadcast the film and panel discussion on local cable television.
