Food + Faith Fair in Russellville, Arkansas

All Saints’ Episcopal Church held a Food + Faith Fair to engage the congregation in building a healthier community. About 400 Russellville community members participated, including members from the congregation and beyond. The event included a Nourish screening, hands-on cooking and gardening workshops, a locally sourced dinner, and a keynote speech by Jo Luck, president of Heifer International.

Following the Nourish screening, Tom Peterson of Heifer International facilitated a discussion about issues raised in the film and how congregations could play a key role in rebuilding their local food system. This generated lively conversation on how to make the community healthier and more economically vibrant, and how to ensure access to good food for low-income residents.

As a result of the fair, participants were inspired to take action in their community. The All Saints’ congregation decided to serve as a weekly drop-off and pick-up point for Russellville’s new online market for locally grown food, strengthening community ties with local farmers.
