Community Garden Potluck in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Shared Harvest Community GardenPilgrim’s Market and Kootenai Environmental Alliance co-hosted a Nourish screening, discussion, and vegetarian potluck at the Shared Harvest Community Garden, in northern Idaho.

A family-owned business, Pilgrim’s Market sources local, healthy, and sustainably grown and produced food, and makes community outreach part of their mission. Their Wellness Center offers classes, counseling, and events to promote health education. The market works in partnership with the Kootenai Environmental Alliance to host wellness events at the Shared Harvest Community Garden, including monthly film screenings on topics related to food and sustainability.

Members of the community garden donate a percentage of their harvest to a local community group or kitchen. Nourish fits into the garden’s goals to educate adults and children about sustainable gardening, bring neighbors together, and increase local food security.

“We like to show Nourish because it’s so integral to community gardening,” Michal Bennett, of Pilgrim’s Market. “It shows the value of growing something yourself, getting your hands in the dirt, and sharing your harvest with people in your community.”
