54 Bite-Sized Videos About the Story of Your Food
BY WORLDLINK STAFF | September 7, 2011
The Nourish initiative (www.nourishlife.org) announced the release of Nourish Short Films: 54 Bite-Sized Videos About the Story of Your Food DVD, a companion to the award-winning PBS special Nourish: Food + Community.
Featuring leading voices from the food movement, Nourish Short Films promises to deepen the growing national conversation about food, health, and sustainability. Speakers include best-selling author Michael Pollan, British chef Jamie Oliver, Edible Schoolyard founder Alice Waters, eco-chef Bryant Terry, healthy food advocate Anna Lappé, and pediatrician Dr. Nadine Burke. The topical videos explore an encyclopedia of food issues, from seasonal eating and home cooking to edible education and the Farm Bill.
“These short films bring to life a vision of a world where food is good for the people who eat it, good for the people who grow and pick it, and good for the planet,” says Josh Viertel, president of Slow Food USA.
Filled with ideas and inspiration, the DVD provides a flexible teaching and learning tool. The short films, one to three minutes each, serve as thought-starters and discussion tools for educators, nonprofits, librarians, health professionals, and families who want to actively participate in creating a sustainable food future.
Senior Fellow of George Lucas Educational Foundation Milton Chen describes the DVD as “an amazing collection of ideas that link learning and action. These bite-sized morsels will nourish your mind, body, and soul.”
The Nourish Short Films DVD adds to the growing collection of resources available from Nourish, an educational initiative designed to increase food literacy and build healthy communities. The Nourish teaching materials include video resources, a media-rich website, and a standards-based curriculum guide available for free at www.nourishlife.org. The initiative is also contributing to ongoing teacher seminars and youth summits.
Nourish is a program of WorldLink, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization dedicated to education for sustainability.
