Nourish: Food + Community to Air on PBS:
What’s the Story of Your Food?

BY WORLDLINK STAFF | SEPTEMBER 21, 2010

PBSAt a time when public interest in food issues is at an all-time high, Nourish: Food + Community invites American families to consider the vital question: “What’s the story of my food?” Through lush visuals and inspiring stories, this award-winning special traces our relationship to food from a global perspective to personal action steps. Nourish airs on PBS stations throughout the nation this fall.

Hosted and narrated by Cameron Diaz, Nourish features interviews with best-selling author Michael Pollan, healthy food advocate Anna Lappé, chef and author Bryant Terry, pediatrician Dr. Nadine Burke, and organic farmer Nigel Walker.

Nourish invites viewers on a journey into our food culture. As Michael Pollan says in the film, “Food is not just fuel. Food is about family, food is about community, food is about identity. And we nourish all of those things when we eat well.”

Nourish: Food + Community is part of a multi-year educational initiative designed to open a meaningful conversation about food and sustainability. To maximize civic engagement, Nourish combines PBS programming, short films, web content, and curriculum resources.

“Nourish helps deepen our national conversation about good food,” says Oran Hesterman, president of the Fair Food Network. “Nourish reminds us of our intimate connection to the food system, and what each of us can do to help fix what is now a system in great disrepair.”

Winner of the CINE Golden Eagle Award for Education & Entertainment, Nourish follows the success of the award-winning PBS special Power Shift: Energy + Sustainability. Also hosted and narrated by Cameron Diaz, Power Shift explores the abundant possibilities of clean, renewable energy.
